Follow Simple Lawn Care Tips And Get a Great Lawn

Article by Donald Dubay

You can be the proud owner of a healthy and beautiful lawn, depending on the time, efforts and money you invest in the lawn.  If you have the time, then you can save quite an amount of money by taking care of your lawn.  Many of us may want to take up lawn care and gardening as a hobby.  It is possible to have a lush green lawn by just following some simple practical tips.

Planning is a very important factor in lawn care.  Depending on the climatic conditions, you may want to choose either cool season or warm season grasses.  Lawn care activities also include choosing good quality seeds for your lawn.  Make sure to cut the grass if it grows above three feet.  Do not water your lawn more than once weekly.  If you have a lush green and healthy lawn, then do not over water it, as the roots will start rotting or wilting away. Aerating your lawn is a very important lawn care activity as the roots get the requisite nutrients, food and water.  Grasses are rich source of nitrogen and they also make for natural compost.  Hence, if you cut the grasses, then do not dispose them.  Just leave them on your lawn and allow them to decompose.    Providing your lawn with rich natural compost is very important.  Overuse of chemical fertilizers will spoil the beauty of your lawn.

Also, the ecological balance is well maintained when natural lawn care methods are used.  The concept of soil testing is becoming increasingly popular, thanks to the awareness amongst people.  You may want to hire a soil testing expert who will do this test and also provide you details about the health of your lawn, the nutrient level, the ph levels in your lawn and soon.   A soil test also helps identify the type of soil in the lawn.  Soils may be either acidic or alkaline. Spraying the right kind of fertilizers also enhances stronger root growth and paves the way for a greener and lush lawn.  Slow release fertilizers are quite popular as they provide healthy nutrients to the lawn.   You may want to make natural compost by mixing leaves, scraps of vegetables and fruits etc.

Grass should not be cut too short as your lawn may not get the required nutrients. These grass clippings can serve as rich natural compost as they have a good percentage of nitrogen.  Preferably choose a mulching mower as it helps transferring the clippings to the lawn.  Also, it helps in easy breakdown of the nutrients.  Moreover, the roots are able to absorb them easily and quickly.  Last but not the least; it is not necessary that you water your lawns everyday. Gentle watering is more than sufficient.
